Why AWE is Unique

.

The Alliance for Water Education is unique in 5 ways:

1. We focus on older students, ages 12 to 18:  We are the only organization exclusively focused on the water education of students in junior and senior high school, US grades 6 to 12. We offer a unique addition to environmental education appropriate for ages 12 and up.

2. A broad range of topics to challenge the older student: Older students are able to learn about complex issues.  Our range of topics gives teachers a broad choice of U.S. and international water topics, all fact-based and impartial.  This creates opportunities for thought-provoking classroom discussions and provides multidisciplinary learning opportunities.  History and social studies teachers can benefit from our lessons as well as life science teachers.

3. Free, digital, unlimted copies: Today’s schools are budget challenged and teachers are struggling to find supplemental materials on environmental education.   Teachers may search for lessons by subject, geography, science/history/economics/geology and more, then download and print as many copies as needed.  All for free.  Our expenses are paid through the grants and donations of our generous supporters, not by hard-pressed school districts.

4. Updating and keeping  lessons fresh and current is easy. Because we are not printing textbooks which are expensive and can become quickly obsolete as environmental news rushes towards us,  we can provide up-to-date science, discoveries, news about emerging technologies, learning opportunities and data about water conditions worldwide.

5. We invite students to become actively involved and engaged through essay competitions and innovative social media projects.
