Our Mission

The Alliance for Water Education is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve environmental education for middle and high school students by providing programs about Water Literacy.  Teachers may download unlimited free copies of lesson plans, research articles and videos from our website, a centralized educational resource.  We raise awareness and understanding about sustainable fresh water use, preparing and empowering future generations to respond to global fresh water conditions.

The Alliance for Water Education operates without partisanship, bias or lobbying.  It is an independent nonprofit organization, a 501(c)3 public charity (tax status pending) headquarted in the San Francisco Bay Area.  We welcome partnership to create up-to-date content from universities and qualified individuals.  Professors with opportunities for hydro-education programs are especially welcomed to contact us.

Water education has been ignored in schools – It’s urgent to start now

US students currently receive very limited environmental education, in part because their schools cannot afford new materials.  Water has been largely ignored in the secondary school curriculum.  As the US population becomes aware that water shortages and contaminants are issues not confined to developing countries on other continents, teachers need a comprehensive resource about water education.  We must start now preparing our students for the water conditions they will face as adults.  More information

Water Literacy sets standards and benchmarks for water information that should be known by every young adult by age 18 as basic knowledge for healthy and sustainable knowledge in the 21st century.  More information about educational materials

Social Media Outreach – Communication to build community

Social Media LogosTechnology is changing the way we communicate.  Since raising awareness and influencing behavior about water choices is our primary goal, we are committed to being responsive and creative about reaching out to the Next Generation.  In addition to academic lesson plans, we are preparing to create compelling community engagement with social media.

As educators, we believe that spreading fear and guilt is not our choice of how to build community and interest in sustainable water systems.  We will focus on personal empowerment, humor, story-telling and encouraging creativity.
